Come out of the dark ages into spring: guru

Yivienne Chow
Fashion lovers should ditch their boring dark tones and embrace a more colourful world in the coming spring-summer season, says a style guru.
"It is very important," said Mary Chan Yan-yan. "Spring is a refreshing season and we need colours that give an energetic look."
Ms Chan, head of StyleCENTRAL - the agent for Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand for fashion consultant Peelers Paris - was speaking at a Hong Kong Fashion Week seminar on future trends.
She said those who preferred a vintage look might consider getting a suit jacket tailor-made.
"It doesn't have to be the whole suit or look formal. Wear it with a feminine blouse," she said.
Ms Chan also advised Hong Kong fashion buyers to be more flexible when buying. "They only buy products they feel like buying (without considering what the market needs)," she said. "They think that Hong Kong people are petite so they keep importing small sizes. Now that Asians do have bigger frames, they should think of a way to improve the turnover."
Yesterday's Fashion Week also held a seminar on design methodology, chaired by Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association chairman Kevin Yeung.and vice-chairman Walter Ma.
Five fashion shows were staged yesterday. The latest collections by William Tang, Peter Lau and Ika were shown at the evening house shows. Designs by eight emerging talents were also showcased.
Hong Kong Fashion Week continues today and ends on Friday.
